Mike Dooley from the law of attraction movie The Secret said “Thoughts Become Things.”
Many other people have said similar things.
As a Mindset Coach and Law of Attraction Practitioner, I believe that our thoughts have a massive impact on how we feel and what shows up in our life.
Today I want to share my no-fluff guide to using affirmations.
What is an affirmation?
An affirmation is simply a statement. In this case, a positive statement to support you.
The affirmation can already be true or something you want. Either way, say the affirmation as if it’s already true.
Here’s an example of what I mean.
I’m so grateful for my wonderful family - This statement is already true for me and it’s something I want to continue being true, so I affirm it.
If I’m feeling stressed or nervous, I often use the affirmation “I’m calm and relaxed.”
This statement is not true for me right then, but by repeating the affirmation, I am sending a message to my subconscious mind to be calm and relaxed.
I’m also sending a message to the universe - The law of attraction responds to your thoughts and will start working to help you become calm and relaxed.
When to say affirmations
You can say affirmations at any time. I encourage you to fill your mind with positive affirmations throughout the day. Messages to support you.
A really good time for you to focus on positive affirmations is first thing in the morning - to set yourself up for the best day possible.
At bedtime just before going to sleep. So that the affirmation is the main focus during the time you are sleeping.
You can say your affirmations out loud or in your mind. I like to do a mix of both throughout the day.
Keep your affirmations positive
Avoid words like “don’t” and “won’t. Focus on what you do want and not what you don’t want.
Here’s an example. Joe says “I don’t want to be nervous in meetings with my boss.”
What he wants is to feel calm and confident during meetings with his boss, so he can use the affirmation “I feel calm and confident during meetings with my boss.”
Here’s another example. Jeniffer is trying to eat healthier. She could say “I won’t eat chocolate until the weekend.”
Affirmations and your thoughts work in a bit of a weird way. This statement can actually cause Jennifer to focus more on wanting chocolate. It can make her feel deprived.
Instead, I would recommend the affirmation “I enjoy a little chocolate at the weekend if I want to.”
For me, as a Mindset Coach, this feels like a much more helpful statement for Jennifer.
Try creating “I Am…” affirmations
Starting an affirmation with “I AM… is incredibly powerful because the focus is on you.
If you want to be confident, say “I AM confident!”
If you want to be successful in business, say “I am successful in business!”
If you want to be the kind of person who gets promoted, say “I’m the kind of person who gets promoted!”
If you want to be a homeowner, say “I’m a homeowner!”
You get the idea.
Also, try “I have…”
“I have…” is another useful way to start affirmations.
Here are a few examples.
I have a beautiful home filled with love
I have a new car that I absolutely love driving
I have a happy and loving relationship with my family
I have a successful business
Some of my favourite affirmations
I’ve been using affirmations in my own life for many years. They’ve helped me to feel really great about myself and my life. They also continually help me to build a business I love.
I use affirmations to help me create specific goals.
This is my very first newsletter created on Substack. My goal is to attract thousands of subscribers who love reading the tips I share. An affirmation that I’ll be using is “It’s easy to attract subscribers who love reading the tips that I share in my newsletter.”
Can you see how that affirmation will support me?
Try creating an affirmation for yourself
Personally, I’m not a fan of great big lists of affirmations. Instead, I think it’s better to create one or a few really specific affirmations that support you.
Of course, you don’t need to limit yourself. I have different affirmations for different things that I focus on.
Focus your attention on something that you want. It can be a physical thing that you want or a specific way you want to feel, anything really.
Write it down.
I want…
Now, create your affirmation to support you. You can try using “I am…” or “I have…”
Go ahead and share it with me.
Use affirmations to support you throughout the day
Affirmations are fantastic to use as you go about your day. Use them to support you.
In the morning, you can say things like… “I love my life. I’m excited to see what wonderful things come my way today.”
That’s so much better than hitting snooze repeatedly and moaning about how you don’t want to get up, or don’t want to go to work, etc.
As you’re getting ready to leave the house and make a journey, you can say things like… “I always arrive at the perfect time.”
This is a wonderful affirmation that I learned from the late Louise Hay. In my opinion, Louise was the Queen of Affirmations and I am personally so grateful for her.
She said that when she walks down the street, she says “I am beautiful and everybody loves me.” I may have changed the wording very slightly.
Anyway, I say this when I’m out and about and when I’m attending an event where I don’t know everyone. It’s lovely. Give it a try for yourself. You can change the wording to suit you.”
I’ve changed the wording before to… “I’m awesome and everyone else thinks so too!”
…
Okay, that’s where I’m going to leave it today. I want to keep this guide nice and simple. And I really want you to give them a try for yourself.
Be consistent with your affirmations. There’s a saying that if someone tells you that you’re stupid enough times then you start to believe it’s true.
Well, the same is true when you feed your mind with positive messages that support you.
Affirmations are simply a way for you to deliberately choose your thoughts. Enjoy.

Please share the affirmations you create for yourself and ask if you have any questions.
