Hi, Happy Tuesday.
Today I want to share some thoughts with you about trying to be positive.
I had a wonderful reply to one of my notes here on Substack that inspired today’s newsletter.
This was my note…
This is the reply that’s inspired today’s newsletter…
I love this comment from Ryan.
It got me thinking about the whole idea of trying to be positive.
I’ve had so many people talk to me about trying to be positive over the years.
“Hey Wendy, I’m trying to be positive but…”
Let me tell you that “I’m trying to be positive…” is almost always followed with a but.
I’m a Mindset Coach, Life Skills Coach, Law of Attraction Practitioner, EFT Master Practitioner AND…
I am NOT positive all the time.
Honestly, I think it might be a bit exhausting. Or at least trying to be positive all the time might be exhausting.
Some days I acknowledge that I’m feeling grumpy. And in my world, that’s okay.
I live in the real world and I’m okay with the odd spell of the grumpies as long as it doesn’t drag on too long.
I’ve found that if I allow myself to feel grumpy, angry, sad… for a brief time then I move past it much quicker.
When I say brief there is no fixed amount of time. For me, this could be a few minutes or a few hours.
When I allow myself to experience these feelings, the feeling tends to start easing pretty quickly.
I’m a firm believer that any emotion is natural and they can cause more problems if we try to push them away too soon without acknowledging them.
Acknowledge the emotions.
Sit with it and allow it briefly.
You can use EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques to raise your energy and release the feeling.
But let’s get back to that comment from Ryan.
He points out that trying to be positive didn’t work for him but gratitude changed everything.
Here’s the thing. You can be having an awful day and shift your focus to gratitude. This simple shift has to change your vibrations. It has to make you feel better.
I really don’t have enough words to explain how powerful gratitude is.
You don’t have to pretend that life’s fine.
You don’t have to try to be positive.
Just try shifting your focus to gratitude.
That’s it. I’m going to let you try it for yourself. I’d love you to report back to me.
Thank you to Ryan for the wonderful reply to my note. You can check out his newsletter

Thank you as always for being here with me today. I am grateful always for you.

I'm more of a it is where it is and that's fine with the glass question. Yes I agree, a positive mindset is great as is a positive attitude but not the expectation that we need to be positive all the time. xx
I’m not sure we are wired to be positive all the time, all day, every day. It’s exhausting. Thankful, yes. Grateful, absolutely. But 100% positive every hour of the day? No.
