Enjoy The Journey And Celebrate The Achievement
Both are fulfilling if you allow them to be. Plus I've got a little end of year round up for you.
Well, Hello. Today as you receive this week’s newsletter, it’s Boxing Day here in the UK and in my family this year it’s the day for our big family celebration.
I’m writing this newsletter on December 21st to send out to you on Tuesday as normal.
As we approach the end of the year, I find, as I do most years, this is a time for reflection. What’s worked out, what went a bit off track, what I loved and celebrated throughout the year.
It’s also a time to remember those who are no longer with us. As I do this, whilst there will always be a hint of sadness, I focus on special memories of love and happiness.
I also start to think of the year ahead and what I want to do and achieve.
I have a book that I’ve had for many years by Katie Piper called Start Your Day With Katie. 365 Affirmations for a year of positive thinking.
For those of you who don’t know who Katie is, she suffered an acid attack that disfigured her face.
She says that affirmations helped her search for strength on her road to recovery.
To me, she’s an inspiration and I’ve turned to her little book so many times over the years to help give me strength when it’s been needed.
Today I want to share an entry from her book.
DECEMBER 21
There is fulfilment to be found all along the journey towards your dreams, not just the achievement. Take the time to enjoy every step.
Take a minute to let that sink in. I don’t think we do enough of this.
It amazes me when people say that I’m a calm and patient person because I don’t see myself that way at all.
I think I’m very impatient and I want everything done yesterday. Nope, I’m not good at waiting for things.
But, on this occasion, I have to agree with Katie’s words.
We have a dream or a goal for something we want to achieve and we want it so much it can completely take over our thoughts.
We can even have thoughts of “I’ll be happy when I achieve this” as if life is on hold until that point.
But, time and time again, it’s been the journey to the end result that has given me the best experience.
So, today, I want to encourage you to take a step back from that end goal and take the time to enjoy the journey.
And I’m not just talking about big goals and dreams.
Let’s say you need to go to the supermarket today. Maybe you want to - Maybe you don’t, but enjoy the journey. Pay attention to what’s going on around you and look out for things to be grateful for and appreciate along the way.
As this is the last newsletter of the year, I want to finish off with a little round-up. Now, I write a LOT, so I’m not going to share everything below.
Instead, I’ve picked 3 of my favourites from the blog, 3 from Medium and 3 of my favourite newsletters. I hope you enjoy them.
Before I share them, I want to remind you that you can now upgrade your subscription to paid and access my EMPOWERED ACCOUNTABILITY ZONE.
Today is the last day to get 30% OFF forever. If you have goals that you want to achieve, I hope you’ll come and check it out. There are previews to most posts and the big kick-off day is tomorrow.
